While employed with Health Canada, Peter McGregor received recognition of his leadership role and contributions to First Nations communities. He received the Governor General of Canada 125 Merit Award for contribution to First Nation's Communities, Health Canada. An example cited upon receiving the award was recognition of his involvement with Aboriginal People and the Innu of Davis Inlet. He also received the Minister of Health’s Award for Team Excellence in recognition of contributions to First Nations, Inuit, and Innu communities. He was short listed for Dalhousie University’s inaugural Alumnus Achievement Award (for his work with First Nations communities). And, he was nominated for the position of Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.
